Studying through song is an excellent way to learn a language. In fact, it’s one of the ten things I wish I knew when I started learning Chinese. I still remember songs I learnt years ago in Mandarin and find them a wonderful way to improve vocabulary, learn to use words in context and, perhaps more importantly, have fun!
A Word of Advice:
The only thing to bear in mind when learning songs in Chinese is that words follow melody rather than tone, so if you’re looking to brush up on your tones, songs aren’t the best place to start.
With that in mind, here’s my top 5 Chinese covers to popular English songs…
Ed Sheeran – Shape of You
Luis Fonsi Ft. Daddy Yankee – Despacito
Coldplay – Yellow
Justin Bieber – Sorry
Rebecca Black – Friday
(sorry, I couldn’t resist… just in time for the weekend!)
